Milty Zerostat 3
Anti-static gun for vinyl records
The blue and completely harmless Zerostat 3 gun from Milty is an effective way to eliminate static electricity from vinyl records, making it easier to remove dust. Discharging the record with the Zerostat 3 improves sound quality and helps prevent dust buildup on the stylus.
The Milty Zerostat 3 uses a small piezoelectric module with a crystal that charges when the trigger is squeezed and released. When the trigger is squeezed, it releases a stream of millions of positively charged ions, and when released, millions of negatively charged ions are emitted. This process removes static charge from vinyl records but can also be used on other items that need to be discharged, such as photographic negatives. Once the treatment is complete, dust can easily be removed with a quality record brush. For a thorough vinyl cleaning, the Zerostat 3 should be used both before and after washing the record.
Up to 50,000 triggers from the Zerostat 3 – no batteries or charging needed
The anti-static Milty Zerostat 3 is easy to use and completely safe. However, avoid pointing and “shooting” at anything other than inanimate objects. As a precaution, keep it out of reach of children. The gun is powered solely by mechanical force, so there’s no need for charging or battery replacement. The Zerostat 3 has a lifespan of up to 50,000 triggers. While this anti-static gun may sound like magic, it’s based on real, proven physics—specifically the piezoelectric effect, which is also used in quartz watches, cars, and many other applications.
To remove static electricity from a vinyl record:
1. Hold the vinyl record freely in the air. Effectiveness is reduced by surface contact—e.g., if it's lying on a turntable.
2. Hold the gun about 30 cm (12 inches) from the surface of the record and slowly squeeze the trigger (about 2 seconds). A stream of positive ions will be released over an area of roughly 40 cm (16 inches).
3. Wait about 2 seconds.
4. Slowly release the trigger (about 2 seconds), releasing a stream of negative ions.
5. Large surfaces with a heavy static charge may require repeated treatments.
*If the trigger is squeezed or released too quickly, the effect will be reduced. The Zerostat 3 won’t be damaged, but you may hear a clicking sound.*
