Hana ML
Moving coil cartridge
As one of the world's best moving coil cartridges, buying the Hana ML gets you a moving coil cartridge that presents the very best in Hana's range. The M series is the finest from the Japanese manufacturer, surpassed only by the top Umami models, which, however, also require slightly deeper pockets.
As mentioned, the Hana ML is a standard moving coil phono cartridge, and this means that it must be combined with an MC-type phono stage, since the output voltage is only 0.4mV. Compared to the S series, the M series is fitted with a finer stylus, more specifically a nude Microline type. This type of stylus is close to the type a cutting head on lathe that cuts the master for a vinyl record. It goes without saying that the Microline stylus will have a better contact surface in the groove than both an elliptical and a Shibata type. It provides a better reproduction of details and an extended frequency range, from 12Hz to 45,000Hz, or a good 45% more compared to the entry model Hana EH.
But it is not just the stylus that is finer on the Hana MH – the housing is also made of another material, injection-molded Delrin. This synthetic material has a different density than the ABS plastic used in the E and S series, with better acoustic properties and resonance damping. The housing is equipped with threaded metal bushings for secure mounting on the tonearm or headshell and braced with a brass plate on top. Hana has also used cryogenic processing as part of the improved performance in Hana MH, which restructures the metals at a molecular level. Only selected parts receive this treatment, i.a. Alnico magnet motor and the result is simply a more precise and better controlled magnetic flux.
