The Rega Nd5 moving magnet cartridge, developed over a decade, offers groundbreaking performance in moving magnet technology. It features ultra-high powered Neodymium (Nd) N55 magnets, a world-first for moving magnets, providing enhanced power and unique design capabilities. Each Rega Nd5 cartridge is meticulously handcrafted, using new generator geometry with perfect symmetry for accurate channel balance. Its optimized pole gap enhances linearity and cross-talk characteristics, offering a broader soundstage compared to previous models.
Rega Nd5 incorporates miniaturized parallel coils, wound in-house with 38-micron wire and 1275 turns, resulting in a low inductance, low impedance generator that significantly improves high-frequency response. The Nd5's body is made from injection-molded glass-filled polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), a lightweight and rigid material that reduces stress on tonearm bearings, facilitating free movement crucial for accurate vinyl playback. This design draws inspiration from the successful MC range.
The cartridge features an aluminum cantilever fitted with a precision nude elliptical stylus, ensuring exceptional tracking accuracy and high detail extraction from vinyl surfaces. The Nd5 cartridge will be available as a factory-fitted option on Rega’s Planar 3 and Planar 6 turntables, offering exceptional performance and value at a discounted rate compared to separate purchases. Rega’s rebuild scheme enhances the Nd5’s value. Its unique pivot pad design eliminates the mechanical joint between the stylus housing and main body, improving tracking ability and stability. Damaged or worn cartridges can be returned for a rebuild, which includes a new cantilever, stylus, and pivot pad, tested as a new cartridge and offered at a reduced price, providing an economical alternative to replacing the stylus alone.
