Chord Mojo 2

Portable high-end DAC/headphone amplifier

With the introduction of the Mojo 2, the successor to one of the best-selling, most revered, highest praised products in this category, Chord once again pushes the boundaries for what can be expected in this price range.

Chord Mojo 2 changes
  • Custom UHD DSP with 4 EQ presets
  • Improved WTA filter and noise shapers
  • Crossfeed function - USB-C input
  • New FPGA controlled battery and power management
  • Dim function
  • Dedicated menu button
  • And more…

When Chord Electronics introduced the original Chord Mojo, they hardly could’ve expected the incredible popularity it achieved. No other DAC/headphone amplifier, and certainly not in this price range, has ever received the number of awards and amount of praise the OG Mojo did. Chord Electronics is known for its incredible high-end products. Fortunately, a lot of the technology they develop for their pinnacle range eventually trickles down to the less expensive products – like the Mojo 2. Rob Watts’ decades of experience is, of course, also reflected in the high performance of their range, if it’s the entry-level Mojo 2 or their Ultima Series we’re talking about.

Chord Mojo 2 is perfect for on-the-go or on the sofa

Chord Mojo 2 is a portable product perfect for bringing along when traveling, commuting to work or school, or just using it as a high-quality portable solution at home. It is, however, competent and can be used as a stand-alone DAC in a stationary audio system. The built-in battery will come in handy here, as it ensures a clean, steady supply of power. The digital-to-analog section is based on the same technology you’ll find in Hugo 2 or DAVE. Instead of using an off-the-shelf DAC chip, Chord Electronic uses an FPGA with considerable processing power and is essentially a tiny computer. This chip also controls battery management and processes WTA (Watts Transient Alignment).

A bit of old and a lot of new

Chord Mojo 2, Like its predecessor, is milled from a solid aluminum block. At first glance, it looks identical to the Mojo but does differ in a few ways. There are now four lit-up spheres for controlling the DAC/headphone amplifier, including a new menu button. The menu button allows for access to advanced settings like EQ, crossfeed, dim function, and more. The EQ is probably one of the most wished-for features and is finally available in the portable Mojo 2. A custom UHD DSP that operates in 104 bits at 705 to 768kHz has been developed to ensure no loss of in-depth perception, preservation of detail, and no change in timbre variation. Unlike all other DPSs, Chord’s UHD DSP is entirely transparent.

Four digital inputs and Chord Poly compatibility

In terms of connectivity, there’s been a slight change with the addition of a USB-C input. Mojo 2 retains the compatibility with the Chord Poly, however, by keeping the Micro USB input. Asides from USB, there’s also a 3.5mm coaxial S/PDIF and a full-size TosLink. The USB inputs can receive up to 32 bit/768kHz signals and the S/PDIF up to 24-bit/192khz – however, if you decide to pair the Mojo 2 with the M Scaler, it can handle 768kHz via dual-link S/PDIF. Outputs remain identical to those found on the previous version and allow for two pairs of headphones via 3.5mm single-ended. A new high and low band setting ensures compatibility with sensitive IEM’s and larger headphones.

Larger battery, improved battery management

To improve the portable experience, Chord has added a new battery with 9% more capacity. It has enhanced battery life that allows for more than 8 hours of listening on IEM/headphones with USB input. Charging the Mojo 2 is faster, with only a quarter of the power loss. It runs much cooler when charging, has a flexible mode taking the available current from the USB charger only, and indicates charging voltage from the charger. Chord recommends using a charger that supplies at least 2 amperes of current. Improved desktop mode isolates the battery, and the PSU has been re-designed to support battery-free operation without loss of sound quality.

Connect to the Mojo 2

Chord Mojo 2 is compatible with a wide range of devices but might require the installation of drivers on your device. For Windows PCs, a Chord-supplied driver is available for download. Apple computers running macOS do not require additional drivers. Connecting to an Android device might require other software to bypass the OS’s built-in limit and non-integer resampling. Please refer to your device’s manufacturer, as we can’t test with every one of the thousands of devices running this OS. Connecting to a device running iOS or iPadOS requires a compatible adapter, like the Apple CCK kit. iPads with USB-C are directly supported using a USB-C cable.

Chord Mojo 2 is a highly recommended product, and we’re confident that you will be pleased with your purchase.
