Meridian Ellipse
High-end streaming speaker
If you're looking for an elegant solution to provide you with music in the living room, office, or bedroom, the Ellipse from Meridian Audio is likely the best you can get your hands on. At least, when we're talking about a solution that can deliver class-leading stereo sound from a single cabinet.
Highlights of Meridian Ellipse
- Elegant, timeless design
- Apple AirPlay, Bluetooth, Google Cast
- Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect
- Roon Ready
Meridian Audio is one of the world's leading manufacturers of active speakers and has been creating the absolute reference in this category for years. With the elegant Ellipse, Meridian has condensed both technology and experience from their larger speakers and created a speaker for the modern home, focusing on design and class-leading sound. This is the speaker for you if you don't want to compromise on sound, but at the same time want a compact, elegant solution. If you already own a Meridian system, the Ellipse is the perfect addition to the office, bedroom, or similar. The speaker's elliptical design is inspired by other Meridian products, and with its harmonious curves, the speaker impresses with an elegant matte black finish. A perfect blend of form and function, with a timeless aesthetic.
Born from Extreme Engineering
The Meridian Ellipse is built on the foundation of the company's Extreme Engineering program, developed with the purpose of rethinking product design, from software to components. The first speaker from Meridian developed in the EE program was the DSP8000 XE, which is among the best speakers ever produced. The Ellipse is of course in a different category, both in terms of form and function, but also in a much more affordable price range. Sound-wise, the Meridian Ellipse is designed to deliver authentic, natural, and lifelike sound, with bass response normally reserved for much larger speakers. This is only possible for a company with such vast experience in high-end sound.
Filled to the brim with streaming features
As a speaker that is not only visually appealing but also packed with features, the Meridian Ellipse is equipped with plenty of options for music listening. There is, of course, a good handful of streaming options on board, both local and internet based. If you want to stream audio from your smart device, it can be connected to the speaker via Apple AirPlay, Google Cast, or Bluetooth. This means there are no limits to the possibilities, regardless of what brand your smart device is. If you have invested in a Roon solution with a music server, the Meridian Ellipse is also ready to play along. It is Roon certified, allowing it to take advantage of Roon's excellent software. Last but certainly not least, the speaker is also ready to deliver music from two of the largest online music services. Both Spotify and – even better – Tidal are supported, both with the Connect function, so you can use their own apps to control the Meridian speaker. However, there’s more than just streaming when it comes to playing audio from the Ellipse. It also offers a physical input where you can connect, for example, a computer, turntable, or similar. The input is a combined mini-jack and mini-toslink, allowing you to choose whether to connect a digital or analog source. Additionally, there is also a USB-B input, which makes it possible to connect a computer to play music in up to 24-bit/192kHz quality.
Advanced features and technologies from Meridian
Although the Ellipse is not one of Meridian's large floor-standing speakers, the company has still managed to pack a lot of the technology found in those models into this speaker. For example, there is Bass & Space, which improves the stereo perspective and the width of the soundstage. There is also E3 Bass technology, a series of filters designed to extend the bass response, allowing the speaker to fill larger rooms with sound compared to other products in the category. With Meridian Q-Sync, a customized 'First In, First Out' buffering system is used to reduce jitter (digital distortion) and ensure perfect timing with improved sound transparency. Another Meridian technology is Image Elevation, which can raise the soundstage vertically. This is ideal if you use the Ellipse below a flat-screen TV, as it allows the sound to match the height of the image. There are many more features and advanced solutions in this speaker, all of which can be found in the Meridian Control App, available for both iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.
The Meridian Ellipse can be operated in two ways. There is no classic remote control – instead, the free app is used, which can control all the functions of the speaker. The more basic functions can be controlled via the illuminated touch buttons on the top of the speaker, with options to adjust volume, skip tracks, play/pause, and activate Bluetooth.
