Revival Audio Atalante 3
Advanced two-way speaker
The Revival Audio Atalante 3 is a magical jukebox! You get the feeling that someone must have measured wrong, because when you compare the Atalante 5 with its smaller brother, the Atalante 3, the latter looks quite diminutive. But a floor standing speaker with a 7-inch driver is certainly not small in absolute terms, and after hearing the Atalante 5, it was with some optimism that we put the Atalante 3 on. But we didn't quite expect to be completely knocked over! The Atalante 3 is a speaker that sounds far larger than it has any right to. It is not a bookshelf speaker, it is a stand mount speaker, and must be placed with adequate space from the rear wall. But if you give it its required space, it’ll roll out the red carpet for a completely irresistible, musical experience!
No off the shelf solutions at Revival Audio
You won't find any standard solutions in Atalante 3. Everything has been designed and developed in France by some of the world's most skilled loudspeaker engineers. Daniel Emonts, who is primarily responsible for the development of the loudspeakers, has more than 30 years of experience from one of the largest French – and most recently Danish – loudspeaker manufacturers. High-end is part of his DNA. The crossover has been carefully listened to and measured through, back and forth, until they have found the absolute best combination.
Advanced solutions in self-developed drivers
Their 28mm tweeter may look like any other soft-dome tweeter, but is quite special. It uses a completely unique coating to control break-up as well as their Back Chamber Damping design, which is basically a conical plate made in a special pattern that absorbs and controls resonances behind the dome. It provides the characteristic liberated and dynamic reproduction of the upper frequencies, without the hint of harshness.
Their RASC bass-midrange driver is also newly developed and especially the cone material is special, and has never been used in high-end speakers until now. Revival Audio uses a type of lava rock called 'basalt'. It is an extract of cooled magma and has some uniquely beneficial qualities. This enables them to create a driver that is more rigid than both fiberglass and especially Kevlar, while the damping of the driver, thanks to a material of glue and special felt, is quite exceptional. Both drivers also use ferrite magnets instead of the very popular neodymium magnets. Ferrite magnets are larger and heavier, but also cheaper, more climate friendly and the greater mass from the magnets better absorbs the heat from the voice coil.
Music on the next level
The result is that the Atalante 3 is a speaker that plays with an incredible presence, but also possesses a firm, solid and surprisingly physical bass that, coupled with a dynamic ability that puts most floor standing speakers to shame. They provide what can best be described as a fiercely lifelike musical experience. You will be drawn into the music from the first, lightning-fast transient to the last, richly defined note. It never becomes woolly. It never gets brighter than necessary. We almost didn't believe speakers like the Revival Audio Atalante 3 existed - and you won't either until you hear them!
