The Technics SU-C700

High quality midi-sized amplifier

For many years, Technics have been pushing daisies in regards to Hi-Fi, but now they have decided to let that be in the past! With the SU-C700 amplifier, they are entering dangerous territory, but deliver an incredibly cool amplifier with LAPC room correction system, which easily calibrates your speakers to your room.

Many amplifiers may have been constructed to work well and perform well with remarkable sound quality – in rooms in which thousands of dollars have been used on acoustics! Technics have applied a neat solution which does not require graphs, measuring mics and miscellaneous difficult software for regulating the frequency response. With the push of a button, the SU-C700 measures the impedance of your speakers and their frequency response in your room by sending out test signals through the speakers, which it uses to adjust for phase errors and frequency peaks. The speakers reaction is equal to the rooms reaction to these test waves, and the feedback tells the amplifier exactly how to compensate for it. It could not be more easy, and the results are striking! More controlled bass, clearer midrange, treble and generally a more lively presentation than before the LAPC-functionality had been applied. We are certainly convinced!

But there is not much to save if the foundation is not in order, but luckily we can say with certainty that it is. The SU-C700 is not a monster of an amplifier, but it plays with a certain ease and rhythm, which is very addicting in the long run. The machine might even seem a bit arrogant in the way it overwhelms you with a resolution and clarity few of us are used to from listening to music. It does this without being too forward, and manages to replicate instruments in a lively an authentic fashion which blows the competition of the water. And then there is the digital amplifier! Wow! How did they make it sound analogue?

Does it have digital inputs and a good built-in DAC? Yes, it does! It supports both 2.8 and 5.6Mhz DSD format via USB and utilizes an advanced battery-driven clock-generator plus an extremely advanced circuitry which reassembles the digital signal and minimizing the influence of jitter. It has an excellent phono input so your record player will feel right at home. It will play back your music with the fantastic warmth and glow from your records in a natural fashion. As an authentic amplifier, the Technics SU-C700 is a strong entry in this price segment and we are happy to bid Technics welcome back to the Hi-Fi market.
