Pro-Ject Phono Box S2
Phono pre-amplifier for MM and MC cartridges
Great sound from a turntable requires a proper phono pre-amplifier and with Pro-Ject Phono Box S2, you are well on your way to vinyl nirvana. The Phono Box series from Pro-Ject has for many years been the answer to sensible phono pre-amplifiers in the less expensive end of the category and with Phono Box S2, its latest edition, it all gets even better - whether you are for MM or MC cartridges.
With an unprecedented performance in the price range, Phono Box S2 takes the lead in the bang-for-the-buck category.. With an extremely impressive sound quality and plenty of options for fine-tuning and customizing, this is a phono pre-amplifier we can only recommend. Phono Box S2 is built in a dual-mono configuration. This means that the right / left channels are completely separated, which contributes to lift in performance in terms of stereo separation and perceived soundstage.
The Phono Box S2 pre-amplifier has built-in subsonic filtering that can be enabled via a button on the back. It filters frequencies below 20Hz, which can sometimes be a problem on turntables where vibrations from the motor migrate through the plinth and end up in the cartridge. In the ideal world, one should not have to use it, but are rarely ideal and now you have the option to protect amplifier and speaker, as well as your own ears from this rumble.
Pro-Ject Phono Box S2 sounds great and the keywords here are are transparency, dynamics and warmth.
