Fully aluminium enclosure

Housed in a custom Rega half-width aluminium case, the AOS not only looks refined but also provides superior shielding against stray RFI interference. This rigid, fully aluminium enclosure protects the delicate analogue circuitry within, ensuring ultra-low noise operation and signal purity. True to its high-end philosophy, the AOS is a two-stage, “all analogue amplifier” with absolutely no digital control circuitry in the signal path. By eliminating unnecessary components and avoiding coupling elements that could degrade performance, the design maintains extraordinary transparency and musical integrity.

Rega AOS is designed for use with MC-type cartridges

Engineered to partner with a wide range of moving coil cartridges, the AOS offers ample gain for low-output MC designs while providing extensive loading flexibility. Users can select resistive input loading from 70 Ω to 400 Ω and capacitive loading from 1000 pF to 4300 pF, allowing precise optimization for virtually any cartridge. Input sensitivity can also be adjusted by 6 dB via the rear panel, giving even greater system matching versatility. An automatic standby function conserves energy by placing the unit into sleep mode after a period without signal, and this feature can be disabled through rear-panel dip switches if preferred.

At its core, the AOS employs parallel-connected, ultra-low-noise FETs configured as compound pairs. The use of FET (Field Effect Transistor) technology ensures zero bias current flows into the cartridge coil, preserving the cartridge’s delicate magnetic geometry and safeguarding sonic accuracy. A self-adjusting servo control continuously compensates for ambient and operating temperature variations, maintaining consistent performance under all conditions.

Dual stage amplification

The first amplification stage is a symmetrical, complementary Class A design using carefully graded and matched Linear Systems ultra-low-noise FETs. This stage directly drives the passive high-frequency portion of the RIAA equalisation network without coupling components in the signal path. The second stage is a symmetrical Class A differential amplifier with a common-base driver, serving as the active low-frequency RIAA equalisation stage. The result is a meticulously engineered, high-precision moving coil pre-amplifier that brings extraordinary clarity, depth, and authenticity to vinyl playback - a true reference component for discerning audiophiles.
