Technics SL-1500C
Direct Drive Turntable with Built-In Phono Preamp and Cartridge
With the SL-1500C, Technics has managed to create a Direct Drive turntable with a built-in phono preamp, semi-automatic operation, and an included cartridge, all at a highly competitive price. The Technics SL-1500C incorporates many of the features found in the more expensive GR series, and is, through and through, a genuine Technics turntable. Over the years, Technics turntables have been widely imitated by both large and small manufacturers, but nothing beats the original.
Familiar Technics features in the SL-1500C
The Technics SL-1500C uses the same direct-drive motor system found in the higher-end models, with ultra-precise motor control. Thanks to technology developed for Blu-ray players, which demand high precision in speed and motor control, the Technics SL-1500C is a precision instrument that reproduces the sound from your vinyl records as accurately as possible in its price range. The tonearm on the Technics SL-1500C is the familiar S-shaped design, crafted from lightweight, high-rigidity aluminum. As with other Technics models, the arm is fitted with an SME-type headshell, making it easy to swap cartridges. The SL-1500C is equipped with semi-automatic functionality, meaning the tonearm lifts automatically when the record finishes, preventing unnecessary wear on the cartridge. This feature can also be disabled if desired.
Includes Cartridge
The platter on the Technics SL-1500C is slightly different from other models, yet it remains a robust two-layer construction made of cast aluminum, with a rubber layer on the underside for optimal damping. Its high weight and rigidity help stabilize the platter and reduce external vibrations that could affect the sensitive cartridge. Speaking of the cartridge, the Technics SL-1500C comes equipped with a 2M Red cartridge from Danish company Ortofon, so it’s ready to play right out of the box. For those looking to upgrade, there are plenty of options, including better cartridges from the 2M series or virtually any other compatible model, thanks to the standardized mounting. The height of the tonearm and the included counterweight can be adjusted to accommodate cartridges of different sizes and weights.
..and built-in phono preamp
Another new feature for Technics is the built-in phono preamp, allowing the SL-1500C to be connected directly to active speakers or an amplifier without needing additional amplification for the turntable. Of course, it’s also possible to bypass the internal phono stage and use an external one for those seeking to upgrade the sound quality. Technics turntables are renowned for their high quality, robust design, and iconic tank-like construction. This is also true of the SL-1500C, which weighs in at 10 kg and stands ultra-stable on any surface, with a dual-layer construction of aluminum and ABS mixed with fiberglass.
