Thorens TD 1500
High-end turntable with decoupled sub-chassis
When Thorens introduced the original TD 150 back in 1965, little did they know, that they would revolutionize the way, in which turntables would be designed. The decoupled, spring-suspended sub-chassis was used for the first time in a mass-produced turntable.
More than a century later Thorens celebrates their history with the TD 1500, which incorporates a lot of the features and technologies from the half-a-century old TD 150 – with a modern twist, of course. The all-manual TD 1500 features the decoupled sub-chassis that decouples the tonearm and the chassis from the motor and frame, using three conical springs. These springs can be adjusted – not an option on the original – through the holes hiding under the platter.
Speaking of platter, the one that comes with the Thorens TD 1500 is quite massive. It weighs 1.4 kg and is 22mm thick, made from cast aluminum with a ground edge. It rests on high-quality Delring bearings, to ensure low-friction, highly smooth rotation.
The Thorens TD 1500 comes equipped with the TP 150 tonarm, similar to the TP 124 used on the high-end TD 124 DD. It has an effective mass of 14 grams and can be adjusted in height and azimuth. The tonearm is equipped with a SME connector for easy, user-friendly switching of cartridges. It comes pre-installed with a 2M Blue moving magnet type cartridge from Ortofon.
With both single-ended and balanced XLR outputs, the Thorens TD 1500 offers the best in connectivity .
