Pro-Ject XA B Turntable
Turntable with Cartridge
The XA B from Pro-Ject is a sleek turntable including a cartridge. The acrylic base is something we have seen before from Pro-Ject, but usually in the higher price range. Acrylic is a good material with effective damping properties, but it also requires extra consideration in the development of the turntable and the combination of the remaining components. Naturally, Pro-Ject has succeeded in bringing everything together harmoniously thanks to countless measurements, adjustments, and listening tests, resulting in impressive performance both sonically and visually.
10" aluminum tonearm
The turntable is equipped with Pro-Ject’s 10” aluminum tonearm with a low-friction, 4-point bearing, ensuring precise tracking in the record's groove. The arm tube is made of aluminum, as this material complements the acoustic characteristics of acrylic better than, for example, carbon fiber. The tonearm allows for adjustments of both azimuth and VTA, enabling the cartridge to perform optimally with correct alignment.
Balanced phono cartridge from Ortofon
The tonearm is fitted with a Pick It PRO Balanced cartridge, developed in collaboration with Ortofon, and is an MM type compatible with balanced connections. To fully benefit from the cartridge, you need to purchase a Pro-Ject True Balanced cable, and the turntable must be connected to a RIAA amplifier with a balanced input, such as the Pro-Ject Phono Box S3 B. Without these two components, the turntable functions precisely like 95% of all other turntables, and a standard cable with RCA connectors is included with the purchase.
Record Puck E for stable playback
The Pro-Ject XA B comes with a 1.7kg heavy platter made of aluminum, fitted on the underside with a damping ring of thermoplastic. A Record Puck E record clamp is included, ensuring the vinyl disc lays flat and stable during playback. The turntable rests on four height-adjustable feet, ensuring good isolation and a perfectly level installation, even if the surface it is placed on is not entirely level.
