Sonus Faber Olympica Nova II
Compact, three-way floorstander
Can a floorstanding speaker be discrete? – we would venture to say yes! - especially considering the beautiful design of the Sonus Faber Olympica Nova II. Standing just above a meter tall, the Nova II is in no way a speaker that will dominate your living-room. Thanks to its beautiful, furniture-grade design, made by Italian artisans, we’re almost confident that the any WAF issues you might have run into, with other speakers, won’t be a problem.
Three-way design with dedicated woofer
The high-performance, three-way design of the Olympica Nova II is equipped with a 28mm soft dome Neodymium tweeter with Damped Apex Dome technology. It extends the reach of the tweeter while at the same time, enhancing its smoothness, combatting any listening fatigue that might result from its extreme detail. Just below the tweeter, sitting in the same leather-clad baffle, you’ll find the 150mm dedicated mid-driver. The cone is comprised of air-dried, non-pressed cellulose pulp (aka. paper), kapok, kenaf and other natural fibers. The organic material results in a cone with a slightly rough surface with varying density. It helps strengthening the cone, which in turn is able to work at a higher speed, with improved detail, transparency and authenticity.
With a dedicated woofer the Olympica Nova II is capable of reaching further into the low-frequency range, but of course the three-way design also improves the performance of the remaining drivers. The 180mm woofer is a sandwich construction comprised by two outer layers of paper pulp, combined with a synthetic foam in between. This low-mass, high-rigidity design is extremely light and fast, and produces a powerful, yet detailed and precise sound.
Furniture-grade finish with advanced port technology
As the rest of the Olympica Nova line, the Nova II of course also comes in a beautiful, furniture-grade design, that completes the luxurious feeling Sonus Faber wants to convey. The cabinets come with hand-finished walnut or wengé veneer. Being a ported design, Sonus Faber had to ensure that any and all noise resulting from the rear mounted port, would be eliminated. To do that, they turned to the Homage Tradition series to get inspiration. Enter the Stealth Ultraflex, an advanced, low-turbulence porting system inspired by the waves of the sea. This design facilitates airflow from the cabinet, but controls its speed to reduce turbulence, and thereby also reduce distortion.
