Revival Audio Atalante 5
3-way luxury sound in classic design
Revival Audio Atalante 5 is a rebirth of the good sound! Much can be said about the Revival Audio Atalante 5, but it doesn’t try to hide what it is. This is a loudspeaker for those who put music and audio quality first, and who are not afraid to show what a speaker looks like. But Revival Audio's aim has not been to provoke with a big box – it is simply the consequence of making the sound as they think it should be - big – very, very big!
Magnificent, detailed, and breathtaking sound
Now, a 12-inch driver in a large, rectangular cabinet may seem somewhat imposing, and you might hear someone whispering "Cerwin Vega..." on the back row - but that's not what we mean when talking about big sound. This is magnificent sound, detailed sound, breathtaking sound - everything that we all want from tiny speakers, but that we know deep down we can only get in large speakers. Ones like the Revival Audio Atalante 5, which are built as relentless high-end loudspeakers by enthusiasts and engineers with decades of experience from some of the biggest and best loudspeaker manufacturers in France – and Denmark. Do we have your attention now?
Tailor-made solutions and components from Revival Audio
Everything in Revival Audio Atalante 5 is developed and designed in France. Nothing is off the shelf. The crossover is developed both with measurements, but also using the old fashion method, where you change components in a dummy system and just listen. The small differences in the measurements may well be decisive for the ear without being so for the measurement. And there are no high-flying ideologies, it just has to sound the best. The large woofer is made of a material that has never before been used in high-end hi-fi called 'basalt'. It is a type of lava stone that is extracted from magma, and which, in a sandwich construction with felt and glue, forms a much stronger construction than both fiberglass and Kevlar, just as it dampens fantastically.
Revival Audio's RASC midrange naturally stands out as one of the first, because it's rare to see a dome midrange on a speaker in this day and age - but Revival Audio have thrown their love at it for several reasons. Firstly, because it is very light, but also because the dispersion is quite ideal for a design like this, as it can push the air to the sides better than a normal concave unit can. Behind the dome, it has an aerodynamically produced inner dome, which is simply to guide the air flow and ensure an airier sound. The tweeter uses many of the same technologies as the midrange driver, and common to all the drivers is that they use ferrite magnets instead of neodymium technology. This makes the magnets larger and heavier - but also quite a bit cheaper and even more climate-friendly.
The three-way stairway to hi-fi heaven!
Does it work then? Yes, it most certainly does! Atalante 5 is built to such a high standard that we would have been surprised if it didn't sound quite fantastic - but the end result has been quite an experience! Not only do you get a completely different bass response from a 12-inch driver, but we can't really remember the last 12-inch driver that played as vividly, flexibly and lightning fast as this one. The midrange is completely free of its own characteristics and delivers a presence where details just live naturally in instruments, voices, and rooms. Did we mention the room? Atalante 5 reproduces space, in a way that very few speakers do. There is an enormous amount of air in the imaging and thus also room for an almost lifelike dynamic on much music, but even the finest details and the largest crescendos are handled equally.
You just have to hear it
From the first note we were seduced by its fantastic balance, where musicality, neutrality, and an otherworldly talent for reproducing the inherent nuances of notes – even when stressed – are just some of its qualities. The Revival Audio Atalante 5 is one of those speakers where you feel your musical needs are being met in every nook and cranny, and we can say with quite a bit of certainty that it's one of the best balanced speakers we've ever heard regardless of price. And if you've grown fond of them, the choice is easy: They only come in one size and one finish.
