High-Tech Drivers
It is rare to find a dome tweeter with a frequency response up to 100 kHz, but this is exactly what Technics has developed for the SB-G90, making it capable of producing extremely detailed and airy treble. This is achieved through a light and rigid anodized aluminum dome, created through countless simulations to provide an optimal shape, while its phase plug ensures better timing and phase. The midrange driver is also made of anodized aluminum, which is both rigid and lightweight. Technics has combined it with a powerful magnet and an extremely linear-sounding voice coil to achieve fantastic precision and transient response in the midrange. The bass driver on the SB-G90 is also newly developed, designed to move extensively and reach deep frequencies with lower distortion. This results in a robust, powerful bass that always keeps pace with the rest of the drivers rhythmically and without hesitation, even delivering deep bass into the room.
Extensive Vibration-Damping Measures
Traditionally, speaker drivers are mounted directly on the front baffle of the cabinet, which can lead to vibrations and thus degrade sound quality. With BDMA (Balanced Driver Mounted Architecture), the drivers are mounted on a sub-baffle inside the cabinet at the driver's center of gravity around the magnet. This helps suppress vibrations and provides a more stable and dynamic sound reproduction. To achieve optimal sound reproduction, the cabinet is constructed with a cross-brace, sub-baffle, and horizontal reinforcement panels. The cabinet also incorporates two types of absorbent acoustic material that reduce internal standing waves and reflections, while multiple polyurethane coatings dampen cabinet vibrations and further improve sound quality. The second-generation SB-G90 also utilizes high-quality components such as polypropylene film capacitors, air-core choke coils, and OFC cables, all selected to ensure the best performance.
