To say we were excited about Atalante 3 and Atalante 5 when they were released is a huge understatement. With a bold retro design and a sound that was both immensely musical but also detailed, flexible and deeply involving, they landed right in our hearts - as well as in quite a few of our customers! So it is with no small expectation that we now welcome the middle brother, the Revival Audio Atalante 4. This is a true 3-way design that employs dual 7-inch drivers as dedicated woofers, while a newly developed 5.25-inch driver only takes care of the midrange, and the same 28mm soft-dome tweeter found in Atalante 3 and 5, provides rich airiness and a wealth of detail in the upper frequency range.
Newly developed midrange driver in the Revival Audio Atalante 4
It's no surprise that the Revival Audio Atalante 4 performs well – extremely well! That the newly developed midrange, which is also created from the lava stone mineral basalt, is dedicated to simply handle the midrange, giving a completely different openness and a large amount of overhead that its smaller sibling, Atalante 3, cannot achieve. The dynamics are alive, musical, and authentic, with transients possessing a natural and organic decay and a coherence rarely found in the price range. Atalante 4 is more than a mini-Atalante 5 – it's all its own, managing to unfold complex music so that it becomes easily accessible, but without sacrificing the slightest bit of insight and transparency.
A speaker with a human touch
Today, advanced computer programs are used to design everything from the electrical functions of crossover filters to the air flows behind the drivers – but Revival is just as keen to listen to whether the results on the computers actually measure up to reality. The partial filter is thus hand-tuned by the skilled Frenchmen, which ensures that the Revival Audio Atalante 4 not only sounds good - but absolutely captivating! Revival Audio has intentionally made so much of the human factor in the development, because they know that our own ears and sensory system can still do a lot when it comes to creating a unique product with a first-class sound quality. And 'uniquely first-class' has to be the description that best fits the Revival Audio Atalante 4. The design is not only classic, but also innovative and vintage at the same time. It is a modern icon that we have no doubt will figure prominently in Hi-Fi yearbooks throughout the 2050s and 60s - and not least in many people's living rooms.
