Technics SC-CX700

Wireless Speaker System

The SC-CX700 are not Technics’ first pair of speakers – far from it – but it is their first wireless speaker, at least in terms of a proper stereo set. Here, you get an all-in-one solution that can deliver high-quality sound in an attractive, relatively compact package.

Highlights of the Technics SC-CX700
  • Integrated streaming platform
  • 2 x 100-watt amplification
  • Space Tune calibration
  • App control
  • Elegant and user-friendly design

If you’re looking for a single solution for a high-end music system, then a set of active and wireless speakers is likely the way to go. It doesn’t get much simpler than this, especially if you want to experience music the way it was meant to be – in two channels, presented in high quality, respecting the work put into the creation and production.

Extensive Streaming features onboard the SC-CX700

The Technics SC-CX700 offers plenty of connectivity options, both wired and wireless. The speakers have an integrated streaming platform, giving you easy access to the services you subscribe to and the millions of albums available. You can stream music from Spotify (with Connect functionality), Tidal, Deezer, Qobuz, and Amazon Music HD. In addition, there is access to internet radio, offering thousands of stations from around the world, including Danish ones. You can also stream from sources on your own network, and a software update is planned for Roon Ready certification, allowing you to play music from a Roon Core on your network. Audio from your smartphone, tablet, or computer can also be sent to the Technics SC-CX700, almost regardless of your device brand. You can stream audio to the speakers via Apple AirPlay, Google Cast, or Bluetooth.

…Let's get physical!

Of course, streaming isn’t the whole story. You can also connect physical sources to the SC-CX700, such as a CD player, turntable, or your flat-screen TV. The back of the main speaker offers various inputs and outputs. There is a set of RCA inputs for turntables with built-in amplification for MM-type cartridges, so the turntable can be connected directly to the speakers without needing an extra intermediary like a phono preamp. There’s also a 3.5mm AUX input for other analog sources. If you have a CD player, it can be connected via the optical TosLink input, ensuring the signal remains digital from the CD to the speaker. A USB-C input allows direct connection of a computer to the Technics SC-CX700. The final connection option is an HDMI input with ARC, making the connection between the speakers and your ARC-supported TV incredibly easy. Sound is sent from the TV to the speakers, with the possibility of adjusting the volume via your TV remote.

App Control and Calibration

The Technics SC-CX700 comes with a classic remote control, but most functions can also be operated through the free Technics Audio Center app. This allows for input selection, network playback, streaming, and more. It’s also where you’ll find one of Technics' clever innovations, Space Tune, which allows you to adjust the speaker's DSP processing based on its exact placement. There are preset modes for corner and bookshelf placement, as well as auto-calibration. If you use the app on an iPhone, you also have the option for automatic adjustment through a precise measurement using the iPhone's built-in microphone. Unfortunately, this feature is not available for Android devices.

Two Powered Speakers with Coaxial Drivers

The Technics speakers are designed as two active speakers, with each speaker having its own dedicated amplifier. The amplifier section is physically separated from the speaker unit by a solid wall inside the cabinet, minimizing the risk of vibrations from the unit reaching the sensitive electronics. The speaker unit itself features a coaxial design, offering several sound advantages. Technics has used this type of driver in other speakers, but for the SC-CX700, the driver has been specifically designed for this model.

With or Without Cable

The speakers can be used both wirelessly or connected to each other via a cable. The difference lies in the sound quality. For most users, the 24-bit/96kHz quality, or approximately twice CD quality, which is the maximum without a cable, will likely be sufficient. However, if you connect the included cable between the speakers, they can play audio up to 24-bit/192kHz. Depending on the chosen input, the speakers can accept audio formats up to 32-bit/384kHz PCM and DSD up to 5.6MHz via DoP (DSD over PCM).

User-Friendly and Elegant

The speakers are equipped with controls on top, making it easy to adjust the volume, for example, if you don’t have the app or remote at hand. The cabinets are covered in a microfiber material with a suede-like feel, providing an elegant finish and a welcome departure from years of high-gloss lacquer focus. Place them on a dedicated stand, a sideboard, or in a bookshelf. Either way, the Technics SC-CX700 will naturally blend into the surroundings. Three finishes to choose from should also make it possible to find a color that matches the rest of your decor.
