The sound from your computer screen is probably not very good, and if you’re using a laptop, the built-in speakers are likely not worth listening to either. Fortunately, there are some great alternatives at a very affordable price. The Onkyo GX-30ARC is one such option—a set of speakers with a built-in amplifier in a compact size. With both physical connectivity options and wireless Bluetooth connection, they can connect to most devices.
Physical inputs, including HDMI with ARC
The Onkyo GX-30ARC is designed as an active/passive solution, meaning that one speaker has a built-in amplifier while the other is a passive speaker. The two are connected with a speaker cable, and the Class-D amplifier delivers 25 watts to each speaker. That may not sound like much, but these are monitor speakers that are typically used up close, making it more than sufficient. The speaker with the built-in amplifier also houses the various connection options. For your computer, the USB-C input is the best choice, as it provides the highest possible sound quality. Additionally, another digital source can be connected via the optical TosLink input, while a set of RCA inputs allows for connection to an analog source. This could be, for example, a turntable, allowing you to enjoy vinyl sound at your desk. However, note that there is no built-in RIAA preamp. If you need a bit of extra "bass" in your sound, you can also connect an active subwoofer to the Onkyo GX-30ARC. Compared to its smaller sibling, the Onkyo GX-10DB, these speakers also feature an HDMI input with Audio Return Channel (ARC), making it possible to get sound from your flat-screen TV through the speakers.
