KEF Coda W

Active speakers with phono stage and Bluetooth

KEF Coda W is made for those who love music, simple solutions, and good modern design. Here you get high-level sound quality inspired by the original Coda series, which made Hi-Fi sound accessible to the general public. Coda W is the modern, reimagined version that benefits from decades of loudspeaker design development and KEF’s latest Uni-Q driver.

Highlights of KEF Coda W
  • Built-in phono stage for turntable
  • Bluetooth aptX Lossless
  • HDMI and USB inputs
  • 12th generation KEF Uni-Q driver
  • 24-bit/96kHz connection between speakers

With the Coda W from KEF, you can create a simple, high-quality audio setup and enjoy your music from physical sources such as a CD player or a turntable. The speakers also have Bluetooth, but compared to LSX II LT and LSX II, the Coda W does not have network functionality. If you want to stream music, you need an external streamer that connects to the speakers. On the other hand, this allows you to choose exactly the one that offers the  features you need.

Music is more than streaming

As mentioned, there is no streaming built into the KEF Coda W, but you can connect wirelessly via Bluetooth. It supports both aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless, so if you have a smart device that supports Bluetooth, especially these two codecs, you can stream audio from your tablet or smartphone. But streaming is not the only way to enjoy music. For one, there is the turntable, which in recent years has made quite a comeback. However, retro popularity is only one aspect of vinyl records. Another is the sound quality, which can be truly impressive. The result, of course, depends on the quality of the recording and the turntable. Once those are in order, you don’t need to think about much else — just connect your turntable directly to the KEF Coda W. The speakers have a built-in RIAA amplifier, which means you don’t need any extra amplification between the turntable and the speakers. If your turntable already has a built-in RIAA amplifier, you can instead connect it to the line input, the two RCA sockets, and bypass the speakers’ RIAA section.

Ready for a wide range of sources

If vinyl records aren’t your thing and you prefer - or also enjoy - the blank discs, you can, of course, connect a CD player to the KEF Coda W. You can choose between the analog RCA line input or, even better, the digital TosLink, which keeps the signal digital all the way from the CD to the speaker. If you have your new pair of KEF Coda W speakers placed near your TV, why not let them handle the sound for TV shows, movies, and game shows? The speakers have an HDMI ARC input, allowing you to connect them with a single HDMI cable from your flat screen. In many cases, this also enables integrated control so that volume can be adjusted using your TV’s remote. If your TV doesn’t have an HDMI output with ARC functionality, you can still get the sound to the Coda W using an optical TosLink cable.

KEF Coda W is digital from end to end

Last but not least, the KEF Coda W also has a USB input. This makes it possible to connect a PC or Mac (or something else) to the speaker via cable, ensuring high quality and a stable connection. The USB input can handle audio up to 24-bit/192kHz, equivalent to more than four times CD quality. All incoming signals in the KEF Coda W are converted to or remain digital, and the speaker is a fully digital solution. Each speaker is equipped with Class D amplifiers delivering 70 and 30 watts to the bass/midrange and treble respectively. The connection between the two speakers is also digital and handled by a single included cable. The cable is three meters long, and if you need a longer one, you can purchase an eight-meter KEF C-Link cable. All signals are resampled to 24-bit/96kHz when transmitted from the master to the slave speaker.

KEF Coda W comes with a remote control and is available in a selection of colors. The speakers can be placed on a sideboard, TV stand, or shelf — just note the rear-facing bass port, which needs a bit of space to breathe. If you want the speakers in the perfect position, you can pair them with a set of KEF SQ1 stands, allowing optimal placement at the correct height.
