With the latest iteration of the Reference series USB cable, QED has once again, improved dramatically on performance and build quality, with positive end results for audio performance.
A USB cable typically consists of two lanes, one for power (GND and 5v VBUS) and one for data (D- and D+), carrying differential data signals. While some manufacturers have introduced USB-cables without the power lane, to reduce interference, these cables actually don’t fulfill the specifications of the USB standard, which can lead to compatibility issues. QED Reference High Resolution USB cables are constructed using two 24 AWG, 99.999% OFC, twisted pair dielectrics, each covered in a polyethylene foam and aluminum/mylar wrap. The efficient separation of power and data lanes result in dramatically reduced jitter and higher performance, while keeping the advantage of having a power sources within the USB cable.
Instead of relying on a ferrite core as a lot of other manufacturers, QED has employed a zinc/manganese ferrite insulation that covers the entire length of the cable. It’s a small change, but one that is extremely efficient in protecting the data lanes from high frequency noise.
