M&K Sound S300T

M&K Sound has often been faced with a luxury problem: What if you want something better, something bigger than the S150T? The answer came with the S300 series, which is based on the same basic principles as the legendary S150 series, but improved in all areas.
The most obvious is that the S300 is bigger. Instead of being 5.25" every woofer / midrange driver is now 6.5". It provides the S300 with more overhead, which means it can fill larger rooms with more dynamism. The drivers have also been improved in terms of build quality. M&K Sound hired Scan-Speak to design a series of drivers specifically for the S300 series, and they have delivered drivers that focus on elements such as low power requirements, and airflow behind the membrane. It gives the drivers a high performance with extremely low distortion.
The tweeters used in S300T are also developed by Scan-Speak to M&K's specifications, and have the same focus on airflow and consequently low distortion. The drivers use a double magnet system, and with three tweeters per speaker, the S300 is able to deliver very high sound pressure levels.
The drivers are mounted in a cabinet designed as a sandwich structure in which a lower casing is mounted within a larger enclosure, separated by a vibration-dampening layer. This reduces resonances in the cabinet, and results in lower distortion. M&K Sound S300T is designed to be the side or rear of the system, and using the special Tripole construction as M&K has made its mark. Tripole configuration combines a direct radiating speaker with two drivers in dipole configuration. It offers the best of both worlds: Dipole speaker dispersion characteristics that make it more difficult to locate the loudspeaker in the room, and the dynamics and precision of the direct radiant speaker.
