Dynaudio Contour 20 Black Edition

A finely tuned version of Dynaudio's outstanding standmount speaker

Through the years, Danish brand Dynaudio has introduced several Special Editions of their popular speakers, and now the time has come for the Contour 20 to receive the treatment.

Upgrades to the Dynaudio Contour 20 Black Edition
  • Esotar 3 Hexis tweeter
  • NeoTec MSP mid-bass driver
  • Dual Flared reflex port
  • Mundorf caps and resistors
  • Improved crossover
  • Internal wiring by Van Den Hul

With several tangible component upgrades, the Contour 20 Black Edition is a tangible improvement over the standard version, the Dynaudio Contour 20i, which is already an outstanding speaker. Beyond the technical enhancements, this version also features an understated, stealth all-black finish.

Confidence series tweeter

One of the most significant upgrades in the Contour 20 Black Edition is the inclusion of the Esotar 3 tweeter, originally developed for the Confidence series. This is Dynaudio’s finest tweeter to date, featuring a powerful neodymium magnet for ultimate control, a larger chamber to minimize resonance, and improved damping. Additionally, the Black Edition incorporates Hexis, one of Dynaudio’s latest innovations. Behind this futuristic name lies a dome positioned directly beneath the silk diaphragm, optimizing airflow and reducing unwanted resonances. The result is a smoother frequency response and clearer, more detailed treble with reduced distortion.

NeoTec MSP mid-bass driver

The long-throw 18 cm mid-bass driver, ensures an impressive listening experience. A key feature of this Black Edition model is the Neodymium magnet, a technology borrowed directly from the flagship Confidence series. Developed by Dynaudio’s top engineers - legend has it that they are able to distinguish different types of glue by ear - this driver is crafted from Dynaudio’s proprietary MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer) material. This material has been the foundation of countless Dynaudio speakers since 1985, offering the ideal balance of stiffness and damping. As a new feature, the MSP diaphragms in the Contour series now have a varying thickness across the surface, further refining performance.

A sleeker, more modern Contour

The previous Contour series gained recognition for its distinctive design, featuring a "floating" cast-iron front baffle. In the Dynaudio Contour 20 Black Edition, the baffle is made of aluminum and is precisely beveled to fit the cabinet. This not only looks stunning but also enhances sound quality, providing a more refined treble and a solid foundation for the drivers to perform at their best. The fact that this also makes the Contour 20 Black Edition a truly beautiful speaker is just an added bonus.

Classic Dynaudio - Classic Contour

The Dynaudio Contour 20 Black Edition is unmistakably Dynaudio, unmistakably Contour—yet it feels entirely new. With its smooth curves, pure yet airy treble, well-defined midrange, and tight bass, we dare say that competitors will have a tough time matching its performance. Since the first Contour speaker was introduced in 1989, the series has always been something special—not just for us as a retailer but also for the countless Dynaudio Contour owners worldwide. These speakers don't just play music; they bring listeners into the music itself. At its core, a speaker should disappear from the equation—yet it must be present. The speaker is the final link before the music reaches your ears, making it the most crucial component of any hi-fi system. With Dynaudio Contour, you get closer to the studio, face-to-face with the artist, ear to the instrument, with the last veil lifted. A perfect harmony between the joy of creating music and the joy of experiencing it.

The world’s best Danish speaker manufacturer

Dynaudio is globally recognized for its speakers, and one of the things we constantly hear from customers is how impressed they are with the build quality. Dynaudio manufactures everything in-house—something that is far from standard in today’s speaker industry! The cabinets for Dynaudio speakers are crafted by highly skilled artisans, and this applies to the **Contour series** as well, where a single cabinet takes up to two weeks to complete. Every step—from woodworking and lacquering to sanding and polishing—is carried out under the strictest quality standards.
