Dynaudio Legend

Danish Hi-Fi history

When we talk about Danish design, it is most often about furniture. But design is of course much more than armchairs and coffee tables. It is also speaker design, and that is exactly what the Danish company Dynaudio is known for worldwide. For more than four decades, they have pampered music lovers’ ears with speakers that have carved out a place in Hi-Fi history as legendary for both performance and design. That is worth recognizing, and that is precisely what Dynaudio Legend does – it celebrates Danish craftsmanship, Danish sound, and Danish quality.

Dynaudio Legend is made in Skanderborg, Denmark by the most experienced craftsmen in the industry, from furniture-grade wood, hand-sanded, carefully treated, and shaped to deliver historic performance. Every single pair of Legend is unique, thanks to its FSC-certified rosewood veneer, which is handpicked for each pair of speakers. So even though it is not a limited edition model, every single pair is a kind of limited edition in its own right. The veneer is untreated and appears in its completely natural form, apart from a protective clear lacquer layer. Dynaudio Legend is available in only one finish, and it comes without a front grille.

Inspired by Dynaudio speakers from the 1980s

The rounded corners are also made of real wood, but from the hard wood jatoba. The MDF cabinets are reinforced, even though it is not necessary for a speaker of this size. It is simply another example of Dynaudio going the extra mile to ensure maximum performance. Legend draws on Dynaudio’s many years of history, with inspiration from the Compound and Consequence models of the 1980s, including the rounded corners, which are a true masterpiece of wood craftsmanship. Not surprisingly, most of the time spent producing a pair of Dynaudio Legend is used to create the exceptional cabinets. The back of the cabinets is fitted with excellent WBT terminals, mounted on a black terminal plate, naturally adorned with the words “Made in Denmark.”

Much more than beautiful craftsmanship

The first thing you notice about Dynaudio Legend is the design and craftsmanship. What keeps you in your seat, in front of your favourite artist, is of course the other part of the craftsmanship of making a speaker – the sound. And here, the engineers in Skanderborg have gone the extra mile, skipped coffee breaks, cleaned out their ears, and fired up Jupiter, one of the world’s most advanced measurement systems. Legend is equipped with some of the most advanced technology Dynaudio has ever developed. At the top you will find a silk dome Esotar 3 tweeter with Hexis, the same type used in, for example, the Contour 20 Black Edition and the Confidence series. Below the tweeter, or above depending on how you position the speaker, sits a 15 cm MSP mid/bass driver with a ceramic magnet system. The diaphragm is Dynaudio’s own MSP (magnesium silicate polymer) material, an extremely stiff, strong, and lightweight material that delivers bass and midrange with a confidence you would normally only expect from a larger driver.

Dynaudio Legend is a compact speaker of the highest class, and a manifestation of all the experience, history, and talent the Skanderborg-based company can boast after more than 40 years in the industry. Performance, design, and craftsmanship are of the highest calibre, and Legend is a speaker that not only signals that you appreciate music, but also Danish craftsmanship and beautiful design. You can place Legend on a stand, but it is designed to sit on a sideboard, in a shelf unit, or on a shelf, and you can place it pretty much however you like.
