Dynaudio Special Forty
Celebrating Four Decades of Danish Dynaudio Excellence
The Special Forty draws on Dynaudio's 40 years of experience and product development. Encased in its exquisitely crafted cabinets is a newly developed tweeter. Based on the Esotar technology found in Dynaudio’s most premium models, this tweeter has been fine-tuned specifically for the Special Forty, perfectly complementing the newly designed 17 cm MSP woofer/midrange driver. Thanks to its robust construction, the tweeter extends as low as 1000 Hz without compromising high-frequency performance. This creates exceptional cohesion between the two drivers and is undoubtedly one of the first things you'll notice when listening to the Dynaudio Special Forty.
Cutting-Edge Woofer Technology
The woofer/midrange driver features a new hybrid magnet system, with the magnet located inside the voice coil rather than outside. This innovative design enhances the interaction with the aluminum windings of the voice coil, improving efficiency and delivering greater power. The driver is housed in an "AirFlow Basket," an aerodynamically optimized structure that minimizes internal reflections and improves airflow behind the driver. Naturally, the "motor" of the new MSP driver is powered by a potent Neodymium magnet. ### **Refined Crossover Technology** The crossover in the Special Forty is a first-order design, a technology Dynaudio has worked on and refined for decades.
Astonishing Performance in a Compact Design
In short, the Dynaudio Special Forty is an incredibly accomplished speaker that borrows qualities from the much more expensive Confidence series. In many respects, it even improves on those qualities, delivering a striking result. Despite its relatively compact size, the Special Forty plays with an impressive sense of scale. It embodies the signature Dynaudio qualities: authenticity and excellence that defy description—especially when you consider its price point. This isn’t just an outstanding speaker; it’s a statement about Dynaudio’s capabilities and, in many ways, a "Greatest Hits" album from the globally renowned Skanderborg-based brand. It offers high-end technology at a mid-fi price.
