What’s the difference between WiiM Amp and WiiM Amp Pro?

In short, the differences include a better DAC, the addition of PFFB technology in the amplifier section, upgraded wireless communication, and optimized passive cooling. Read more about the individual upgrades below.

WiiM Amp Pro is the ideal solution if you want to create a stereo system with great sound and extensive functionality. All you need to add is a pair of speakers. The small Amp Pro is an upgraded version of the popular WiiM Amp amplifier, with a series of minor yet significant enhancements in terms of components and design.

Tiny amp - big performance

With dimensions of only 19 x 19 cm and a height of just over 6 cm, the WiiM Amp Pro doesn’t demand much attention. But it performs excellently and is packed with exciting features that can contribute to a great musical experience. This all-in-one music amplifier combines a Class-D amplifier design with high-quality components from ESS and Texas Instruments, as well as a wide range of streaming features. Everything can be controlled with a free app for your smartphone. The WiiM Amp Pro offeres 2 x 60 watts at 8 Ohms and doubles up to 2 x 120 watts at 4 Ohms.

Upgraded ESS Technology DAC chipset

In this Pro version of WiiM's tiny powerhouse, the same amplifier is used as in the standard version, a TPA3255 from Texas Instruments. However, WiiM has added PFFB (Post-Filter Feedback) technology, which improves performance and thus sound quality. An upgrade of the DAC chipset has also been made, with the choice once again falling on a solution from ESS Technology, but this time with the higher-quality ES9038Q2M chipset. To ensure optimal performance from the amplifier, WiiM has also chosen to upgrade the passive cooling, so that heat from the amplifier components is dissipated as effectively as possible.

Music from multiple sources

One of the advantages of the small WiiM Amp, and now its Pro counterpart, is the easy access to music listening. After all, that’s the whole point of buying an amplifier. Streaming is clearly the primary listening function in this amplifier, and feature-wise, it is well-equipped. In terms of online music services, the WiiM Amp Pro supports Spotify, Deezer, Qobuz, and Tidal. It’s also possible to stream from local sources, such as a DLNA server on your network, or from a compatible smart device via Google Chromecast. There is no mention of Roon certification at launch, but other products from the manufacturer have been upgraded over time, so it’s likely the same will happen for the WiiM Amp Pro. In addition to the streaming features, it’s also possible to connect external, physical sources to the amplifier. A set of analog RCA inputs can be used, for example, with a turntable—just remember to use an external RIAA preamp—and an optical digital input is ideal for use with a CD player. Additionally, there’s an HDMI input with ARC, so you can connect the amplifier to your flat-screen TV and get sound through a set of good speakers instead of the flat built-in ones. The final input is a USB-A port, which allows you to connect a USB drive to the WiiM amplifier. You can then access the music collection on the drive directly through the WiiM app and even play the music in multiple zones, for example, if you have a WiiM Mini in the bedroom and a WiiM Pro in the office. This is a cool feature if you don’t already have a network-based music storage solution.

The WiiM Amp Pro is controlled via the free app, which also allows for a range of customizations, including a 10-band equalizer. With the app installed, you also gain access to room correction, which can further improve the amplifier’s performance. A traditional remote control with physical buttons is also included.
