Dynaudio Confidence 30
Fabulous 3-Way Speaker that Improves on Previous Flagship Models
When you’ve already created something considered the best, it’s hard to come up with a follow-up that raises the bar. But that’s exactly what Dynaudio has achieved with the new Confidence 30. Though it’s the smallest floorstanding model in the series, it’s an incredibly capable music presenter. The three-way design features Dynaudio’s new drivers: two 18 cm NeoTec MSP bass drivers, a 15 cm MSP midrange, and, of course, the all-new Esotar3 Hexis tweeter. Thanks to the groundbreaking DDC Lens waveguide, you’re guaranteed a wide, dynamic soundstage, free from unwanted reflections from the ceiling and floor. The Dynaudio Confidence 30 comes in four stunning and exclusive finishes, some of the most beautiful we’ve ever seen.
The New Confidence Series
The Dynaudio Confidence series has always been something special. It’s not just been a good speaker series, but in our ears, it’s been some of the most convincing sound we’ve ever heard. So how do you improve on something that’s essentially already perfect? You start from scratch. The new Confidence series is the best Dynaudio has ever produced. Packed with cutting-edge technology and development fine-tuned over decades by a team of engineers and audio enthusiasts with extremely high demands on both sound quality and design. The Confidence series was developed with intensive analysis from Jupiter, Dynaudio's state-of-the-art measurement facility. Here, the new DDC Lens Waveguide system was developed.
Esotar3 Hexis: The Best Dynaudio Tweeter Ever
The new Esotar 3 tweeter featured in the Confidence series is the finest soft-dome tweeter Dynaudio has ever created. It’s an evolution of the Esotar 2 used in the previous Confidence series and the new Contour series. The Esotar 3 features a larger chamber to dampen resonances, improved damping, and is equipped with a powerful neodymium magnet for ultimate control. There’s a significant improvement in the transition from tweeter to midrange, integrating much more organically. Also included is the new Hexis technology. Behind this slightly futuristic name is a dome positioned just beneath the silk diaphragm, helping reduce unwanted resonances through improved airflow behind the diaphragm. It smoothens the frequency response, providing a clearer, purer treble with more detail and less distortion. ###
DDC (Dynaudio Directivity Control) – A Major Breakthrough
In the previous Confidence series, the floorstanding models were equipped with two tweeters and a complex crossover to direct the sound waves from the tweeters toward the listener while minimizing reflections from surfaces. This reduced the need for acoustic optimization in the room and provided a significantly improved listening experience. The system was called DDC (Dynaudio Directivity Control), and the next generation of this system is now part of the new Confidence series. The principle—and the goal—remain the same, but now it’s achieved with a much simpler crossover and only a single tweeter. Thanks to the DDC Lens, a sophisticated waveguide that focuses the vertical sound image without compromising the horizontal dispersion, there are fewer reflections from the floor and ceiling, but the wide, fantastic soundstage remains. In fact, it’s even wider. Dynaudio engineers have also improved the horizontal soundstage, making your sweet spot even broader and the experience even greater.
NeoTec MSP: New Drivers Taking Performance to New Heights
But the new Confidence series is not just about the Esotar 3 tweeter. The new NeoTec bass drivers are also featured. These drivers come with a newly developed voice coil, using up to three layers of fiberglass for increased stiffness. There’s also an emphasis on improved airflow. And because Dynaudio doesn’t just make standard drivers for an entire series in this class, there’s actually a slight difference between them. The ‘smaller’ Confidence 20 uses a voice coil wound with aluminum, while the larger models use copper. Copper is heavier than aluminum, and in the larger models, Dynaudio engineers wanted the speaker to deliver a bit more ‘punch,’ creating better synergy with the cabinet tuning. The diaphragm is made from MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer), a material perfected by Dynaudio over decades. The midrange has also received an update, including the new Horizon suspension, which allows the diaphragm to extend fully to the edge of the driver. It also sits completely flush with the baffle to reduce diffraction from the diaphragm and tweeter.
Custom Reflex Ports for Each Model
Even the reflex port, which often gets little attention in most speakers, has been custom-designed for the Confidence series. Each model is equipped with a reflex port that has been measured, listened to, and tailored for the individual model. The Confidence speakers sit on a massive steel plate, essentially acting as the floor for the speaker, or in the case of the Confidence 20, the top plate on a stand. This stable foundation, combined with the fixed spacing between it and the reflex port, ensures that the Confidence speaker can be placed on wood or concrete floors or even on carpeting, without affecting the port’s performance.
Familiar Design, Refined, Polished, and Improved
Design-wise, the new Confidence speakers retain cues from the previous series, particularly the prominent baffle. However, there’s now a stronger focus on organic design, turning the Confidence speakers into pieces of visual art. The lines are clean, with no sharp edges. Everything is rounded, soft, and inviting—an invitation not just to listen, but also to see and touch.
