Dynaudio Confidence 60

The Ultimate Speaker from Dynaudio’s Confidence Series

The Confidence 60 is big! ...and it’s not shy about it. This is the speaker for those who demand the very best and have a room large enough for the Confidence 60 to unfold. Because once it does, there’s no going back. Size matters—especially when we’re talking about speakers, and a large speaker like the Confidence 60 has a physical presence that simply can’t be replicated in a smaller design. The largest model in the Confidence series, it features a three-way design with the new Esotar3 tweeter, two 15cm MSP midrange drivers, and two 24cm MSP NeoTec bass drivers, which are more than capable of moving a lot of air.

The New Confidence Series

The Dynaudio Confidence series has always been something truly special. It hasn’t just been a good speaker series; in our ears, it’s been some of the most convincing sound we’ve ever heard. So, what do you do to improve on something that can’t really be improved? You start from scratch. The new Confidence series is the best Dynaudio has ever produced. It’s packed with technology and developments refined over decades of speaker evolution, thanks to a team of engineers and audio enthusiasts with extremely high standards for both sound, design, and finish. The Dynaudio Confidence series was developed with intensive analysis from Jupiter, Dynaudio’s state-of-the-art measurement facility. Here, the new DDC Lens Waveguide system was also developed.

Esotar3 Hexis: The Best Dynaudio Tweeter Ever

The new Esotar 3 tweeter in the Confidence series is the finest soft-dome tweeter Dynaudio has ever produced, and it’s the evolution of the Esotar 2, which graced the previous Confidence series and the new Contour. The Esotar 3 features a larger chamber to dampen resonances. There has been improved damping, and it’s equipped with a powerful neodymium magnet for ultimate control. There’s a significant improvement in the transition from tweeter to midrange, integrating more organically. And of course, there’s room for yet another new technology—Hexis. Behind this slightly futuristic name is a dome sitting directly beneath the silk diaphragm, helping to reduce unwanted resonances by improving airflow behind the diaphragm. This evens out the frequency range and provides clearer, purer treble with more detail and less distortion.

DDC (Dynaudio Directivity Control) – A Major Breakthrough

Previous floorstanding models in the Confidence series were equipped with two tweeters and a very complex crossover to control the tweeter sound waves towards the listener and away from reflective surfaces. This reduced the need for acoustic optimization in the room and provided a significantly improved listening experience. The system was called DDC (Dynaudio Directivity Control), and the next generation of this system is now part of the new Confidence series. The principle—and the goal—remain the same, but now it can be achieved with a much simpler crossover and only a single tweeter. Thanks to the DDC Lens, a highly sophisticated waveguide that focuses the vertical sound image without compromising the horizontal dispersion, this means fewer reflections from the floor and ceiling, but the same wide, fantastic soundstage you expect from a Dynaudio speaker. In fact, it’s even wider. Dynaudio engineers have also improved the horizontal soundstage, so your sweet spot is now even broader, making the experience even greater.

NeoTec MSP: New Drivers Taking Performance to New Heights

The new Confidence series isn’t just about the Esotar 3 tweeter. There are also entirely new NeoTec bass drivers. These drivers feature a newly developed voice coil, which uses up to three layers of fiberglass for increased rigidity. There’s also work on improving airflow. And since Dynaudio doesn’t just create standard drivers for an entire series in this class, there are actually slight differences between them. The ‘smaller’ Confidence 20 uses a voice coil wound with aluminum, while the other models use copper. Copper is heavier than aluminum, and in the larger models, Dynaudio engineers wanted the speaker to deliver a bit more ‘punch,’ which also creates better synergy with the cabinet’s tuning. The diaphragm is made from MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer), a material that Dynaudio has perfected over decades. The midrange has also received an update, including the new Horizon suspension, which allows the diaphragm to extend fully to the edge of the driver. It also sits completely flush with the baffle to reduce diffraction from both the diaphragm and the tweeter.

Custom Reflex Ports for Each Model

Even the reflex port, which typically doesn’t get much attention in most speakers, has been custom-designed for the Confidence series. Each model is equipped with a reflex port that has been measured, listened to, and tailored for the individual model. The Confidence speakers stand on a solid steel plate, essentially acting as the floor for the speaker or, in the case of the Confidence 20, the top plate of a stand. This stable foundation, combined with the fixed spacing between it and the reflex port, ensures that the Confidence speaker can be placed on wooden or concrete floors or even on carpeting, without affecting the port’s performance.

Familiar Design, Refined, Polished, and Improved

Design-wise, you can definitely see the influences from the previous Confidence series, particularly with the prominent baffle. However, the design work has focused much more on organic design, turning the Confidence speakers into a piece of visual art. The lines are clean, but not a single sharp edge is found. Everything is rounded, soft, and inviting—an invitation not just to listen but also to see and touch.
