Dynaudio Contour 60i
The Grand Three-Way Contour 60i – The Ultimate Music Experience
The differences from its smaller sibling, the Contour 30i, are evident. In addition to an extra driver (a 15 cm midrange unit), the size of the other two drivers has also been enhanced. Here, you get two 24 cm Nomex MSP bass drivers, powerful enough to potentially trigger a tsunami on the other side of the globe. Featuring diaphragms with varying thickness and oversized voice coils made of ultra-light aluminum, these drivers move with such force that standing too close might earn you a black eye. In developing the new drivers, Dynaudio utilized Finite Element Method optimization. This essentially means their engineers in Skanderborg relied on advanced computational geometry to refine every detail while enjoying coffee and music. In simpler terms, their small team of three mathematicians managed to create an entirely new driver specifically for the Contour 60i. While many manufacturers might have reused an existing driver from another series, Dynaudio’s commitment to innovation sets them apart—a trait to be greatly appreciated.
Esotar 2i Tweeter with Hexis Dome
No masterpiece is complete without its finishing touch, and no speaker is complete without a tweeter. The Contour 60i is equipped with the brand-new Esotar 2i silk dome tweeter, featuring the Hexis inner dome to minimize distortion. While Dynaudio is known for manufacturing everything in-house, whether they’ve gone as far as investing in a silkworm farm for the Esotar 2i remains unknown.
The Improved Contour 60i – A New Standard in Performance
Dynaudio has gone above and beyond, refining one of the best speaker series they’ve ever created. The “i” in Contour 60i stands for “improved,” and the latest incarnation of the Contour series fully embodies this ethos. During the development of the new Confidence series, Dynaudio engineers gained significant insights, which they applied to the Contour series—not out of necessity, but to bring the benefits of this newfound expertise to a more accessible range. So, what’s changed? Every model in the Contour series now features the updated Esotar 2i tweeter, which incorporates the Hexis inner dome. The tweeter’s rear chamber has been enlarged, further reducing distortion. The midrange driver remains the same but is now mounted within a cast enclosure to minimize resonance—a technology directly borrowed from Dynaudio’s Core series, their reference in studio monitors. The two bass drivers have also been significantly upgraded with larger magnets and an updated fiberglass voice coil design, as seen in the Confidence series. This results in even more precise bass at higher volumes. The cabinet design has remained mostly unchanged in this update, which is entirely appropriate. However, internal damping has been optimized with inspiration drawn from both the Evoke and Confidence series.
Classic Dynaudio – Classic Contour
Since the first Contour speaker debuted in 1989, the series has been a standout. Loved by dealers and cherished by Dynaudio Contour owners worldwide, these speakers don’t just deliver sound—they immerse you in music. That’s the ultimate goal. A speaker should vanish from the equation, leaving only the music. Achieving this requires the speaker to be present, but not noticeable. It’s the final link in the chain before the music reaches your ears, and it’s the most critical component in any hi-fi system. With Dynaudio Contour 60i, you’re brought directly into the studio—face-to-face with the artist, ear-to-instrument, with every veil lifted. It’s a seamless blend of the joy of creating music and the pleasure of experiencing it.
A Custom Solution from Skanderborg
The new Contour series enhances an already outstanding range of speakers with updated designs, advanced technology, and entirely new drivers created by the world’s leading speaker manufacturer in Skanderborg, Denmark. Every component—from magnets to voice coils, and even the adhesives holding the parts together—has been redesigned. The front baffle has also been reimagined. Previously made of rugged cast iron, it is now crafted from aluminum with smooth contours. This not only enhances aesthetics but also significantly improves performance thanks to the material’s rigidity.
World-Class Craftsmanship from Denmark
Dynaudio is renowned worldwide for their speakers, and one aspect customers consistently praise is the exceptional build quality. Unlike many other manufacturers, Dynaudio produces everything in-house. The cabinets for Dynaudio speakers, including the Contour series, are handcrafted by skilled artisans. Each cabinet takes up to two weeks to complete, with woodworking, lacquering, sanding, and polishing carried out under the strictest quality standards.
