Luxsin X9
Headphone Amplifier, DAC, and Preamplifier
You may not have heard of Luxsin before, and there’s a good reason for that. At the time of writing, it is a new brand from Zidoo, the company behind Eversolo. While Eversolo products focus on delivering high quality at a lower price range, Luxsin is built on a different philosophy. This is a brand primarily aimed at delivering the absolute best sound quality, with an uncompromising approach to construction, components, and design—regardless of the cost. The first product in the lineup is the X9, a high-end headphone amplifier, clearly inspired in design by Eversolo, but with top-tier internals.
Three-in-one design with headphone amplifier, DAC and pre-amplifier
The Luxsin X9 is a "three-in-one" device that combines its primary function as a headphone amplifier with an advanced DAC and preamp. Some of the circuitry is based on that of the Eversolo DMP-A8, but the Luxsin X9 does not include a built-in streaming platform. This means the music must come from an external source, and the X9 offers a wide range of input options. For digital sources, you can connect a computer or streamer via USB; there are coaxial S/PDIF and optical TosLink inputs, for example, for a CD player, and there's a set of single-ended RCA inputs for an analog source. You could connect a turntable here, but note that the Luxsin X9 does not have a built-in phono preamp. There is also a single wireless function—Bluetooth 5.0—so you can stream from your smartphone, tablet, or computer. In our view, this feature isn't meant for high-quality music enjoyment but rather as a convenient option to quickly send audio to the device. If you want to experience top-tier audio, you’ll want to use a wired connection from your source to the Luxsin X9.
Packed with high-end components and features
As expected, the Luxsin X9 is packed with features that can elevate your headphone listening experience. First, the headphone amplifier includes a large display, which not only shows attractive VU meters but also provides easy access to an extensive menu. It includes an advanced HP-EQ function, allowing you to tailor the sound to your personal preferences. In addition, there are presets for over 2,500 different headphone models, including from brands like Hifiman. Headphones can be connected via balanced 4-pin XLR or 4.4mm plugs. Unbalanced headphones can be connected via the classic 6.3mm (1/4”) jack. Luxsin’s uncompromising philosophy naturally means a strong focus on high-end components. You’ll find features like an R2R volume control with 0.1dB precision, one of AKM’s finest DAC chipsets (AK4499EX), and a carefully selected array of capacitors, resistors, gold-plated connectors, and silver-plated OCC copper cables. The Luxsin X9 comes with a remote control and can also be operated via the Luxsin app for iPhone and Android, as well as through the touchscreen on the front panel.
